The Ministry of Railways (MOR) launched a giant change in the railway schedule on 1st April, the seventh since 1997, featuring faster trips and more seats. The new schedule includes 89 pairs of new direct passenger trains. The number of passenger trains is reached to 1551 pairs. There are 345 pairs of bullet train which’s speed is 250 km/h to 300 km/h. the railway network will daily handle extra 0.238 billion passengers and passenger capacity is raised more than 10.6 percent. The nation speeded up its railways six times between 1997 and 2007. The highlights are China also launched two 250-km-per-hour inter-city railway passenger lines on 1st April. One line links Hefei, capital of eastern Anhui Province, with Wuhan, in central Hubei Province. The other connects Shijiazhuang in northern Hebei Province with Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. The Hefei- Wuhan line is the shortest route between Yangtze River Delta and Mid-south of China. The 8 pairs bullet train will cut the space distance in these two areas: 1h 55min from Wuhan to Hefei, 2h 50min from Wuhan to Nanjing and 4h 45min from Wuhan to Shanghai. Shijiazhuang- Taiyuan line runs across Mt. Taihang and becomes the fast tunnel of North China and West China. This new lines of 27 pairs of bullet train will cut the travel time from Taiyuan to Beijing to three hours. The journey between Taiyuan and Shijiazhuang would only take 59 minutes, down by 4 hours. The total number of China bullet train reached to 345 pairs which symbols the Fast Railway Network forms gradually, and China is Entering a High-speed Railway Era. According to the new train schedule, Passenger Dedicated Lines (PDL) including Hefei-Wuhan line, Hefei-Nanjing line, Shijianzhuang- Wuhan line will be increased 35 pairs bullet train, 5 pairs bullet train from Beijing to Shanghai, 1 pair from Beijing to Guangzhou. The soft sleeper bullet trains from Beijing to Shanghai will reach to 8 pairs. The bullet train route will cover 18 provinces from 17 provinces which are in East China, Middle of China and West China. The new schedule saves a lot of travel time between mail cities of China. Such as it costs 10h 59 min from Shanghai to Fuzhou which cuts 5h 44min; 13h 21min from Shanghai to Taiyuan which saves 10h 59min; 14h 4min from Shanghai to Shenyang which saves 14h 6min and 8h 2min from Shenyang to Taiyuan which saves 14h 41min. Besides passenger trains, the new train schedule obviously raises the efficiency of freight trains. The total number of freight train is 3673 pairs which reached 4.8%. Liu Zhijun, the minister of Railways, said the number of trains increased greatly, involves scoped widely, transportation changed obviously. The launch of the new train schedule is a difficult task of transport security. In order to execute the new schedule successful, the important point is to guarantee the transport security. Liu Zhijun request all the train equipment need to be checked again and again. According to “zero flaw, zero error and zero breakdown”, all the trains must have quality equipment, strong the examination and overhaul, strictly execute fixed route, fixed line, fixed platform, fixed parking spot and fixed staff. Checking and consummating the contingencies again. Once there is any emergency, all the staff must be react fast and deal effective. Ding Li, a researcher on regional economy competitiveness at the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, said that high-speed railways and inter-city express services would bring more opportunities to less-developed regions, such as the central and northwestern parts of the country and rural areas.
